Another perspective

I note that the NDP have risen steadily in the polls taken in this riding since the election was called, with the NDP now slightly ahead of the Liberals, although both appear to be behind the incumbent Conservative. I think this is due to three main factors: (1) the big one is Layton's strong performance relative to Dion's, both in leadership qualities and in their House voting records over the last several years. The Liberals did sign Kyoto and then let greenhouse emissions spiral upwards with no serious attempt to control them, even with Dion as Environment Minister. (2) The NDP candidate, Steve Sharpe, was unknown at the start and has now had some time to reach the public, and (3) the Liberal, McGregor, is a parachute candidate that divided that party locally. It is too bad that the Liberals and NDP are splitting the vote. Probably if I were a Green I would vote NDP as the major party most likely to take the environment seriously.
